The Walking Route Rivierpark Maasvallei - Drie Eigen Orange takes you on a 6.7-kilometre walk through the countryside between Thorn and Wessem. You walk past open farmland, the Meggelveld nature reserve and the Thornerbeek stream. Along the way, wide views, nature and small chapels provide plenty of variety.

From open farmland to Meggelveld

You start at the car park on Steegputstraat and head north through the open farmland. Before long, you reach Meggelveld, a nature reserve between Thorn and Wessem. Clay was extracted here during the 20th century for use in the brick industry. Today, the area is home to wildlife, including grey herons. Konik horses and Galloway cattle help maintain the landscape naturally.

In Meggelveld, you can follow the walking paths or explore beyond the marked trails. If you choose to wander freely, make sure to wear wellies, as the ground can be quite wet.

Past small chapels and the Thornerbeek stream

On this Walking Route Rivierpark Maasvallei, nature and culture go hand in hand. You walk alongside the Maasplassen lakes and pass small chapels along the way. Towards the end of the route, you follow the Thornerbeek stream for quite a distance before returning to your starting point.

Fancy taking a break along the way? The route offers the opportunity to stop in Thorn or Wessem. This way, you can combine a walk through the Drie Eigen countryside with a visit to one of these places.
